Keep your logs happy and healthy. We use unique and and natural products to make sure you will get a finish that will preserve your building, will last forever(no dreaded peeling!) and isn't toxic.
We prefer to use pine tar, a 2000+ year old product, that will absorb in to and hydrate your wood structure for nature's preferred finish. The benefits of pine tar are:
Another important step of the restoration process is re-sealing the joints between logs and in the corners. This will make your structure more bug, air, and weather proof. It's a detail-oriented process that, done correctly using high quality, log specific products, will make your space more comfortable.
We never guessed one of the trickiest builds we’ve been involved in from start to finish would be a tiny agricultural structure for bees. We believe that the future of quality, long-lasting, sustainable construction lies not in factory assembly lines; but in the hands of skilled labourers who can solve problems, understand the needs of their clients, are knowledgeable about the products they use, and can take pride in the finished results of their work. We’re proud of the finished result of this project and hope to take on more in the future.
Our priorities for this project were:
There are many reasons to restore an existing home including historical preservation, environmental impact, cost-effectiveness, etc.
Our experience restoring historic houses has allowed us to restore pride in old homes that had been well-loved for 100+ years. By restoring your home instead of tearing down, you'll save thousands of dollars and thousands of tonnes of waste from the landfill. Your house can be restored to be completely original or can be a totally different floorplan; the possibilities are endless and there is no house that is beyond saving!
Another benefit of restoration; generally speaking, old homes were built to last. Lots of old homes have higher-quality, full dimension lumber, which is rare to find in a new building. This means your structure is strong, no matter how it is finished on the inside. A restoration, or a partial restoration, can make your space feel like new. Lots of builders will tell you that your home should be torn down and replaced, but this is the less complicated and most profitable solution for them. We believe your home is worth saving and unique problems require attention, care, and patience.
New windows and doors can make a space feel different. It can seal, protect, and make a space more comfortable.
Our philosophy is: windows aren't the most efficient way to update a building or add insulation. That said, they can be a great option and there are many reasons you may want to replace your windows including:
Stairs can serve many purposes; they can be an impressive feature, they can be custom to fit a small space, or they can be made with mobility challenges in mind, to make a few examples. We love making stairs and we love a challenge.
We had the opportunity to work in Denmark with bindingsværk(half-timber house) restoration experts. Our values strongly align with Danish restoration; old buildings are meant to be preserved and celebrated, not torn down. The team with worked with were excellent craftsmen who had patience and care for every detail. Thats what we try to replicate in our projects.
